New Delhi: A complaint was officially filed by actress Ruchi Gujjar against producer Karan Singh Chauhan over an alleged financial fraud of Rs 24 lakh involving a Hindi television serial. The FIR was registered on July 24 at Mumbai’s Oshiwara police station, accusing Karan of fraud, criminal breach of trust, and threats following a failed co-production deal.
According to the actress, the financial dispute stems from a proposed television serial that Chauhan had pitched as a Sony TV project. Ruchi claimed she was first approached by the producer on WhatsApp, where he presented himself as the man behind the upcoming show. “He offered to add me as a co-producer and also sent documents related to the project,” she stated in her police complaint.
Convinced by the documentation and Karan’s promises, Ruchi transferred Rs 24 lakh from her company, SR Event and Entertainment, to accounts linked to K Studios and other entities. These transfers were reportedly made over several instalments between July 2023 and January 2024.
Despite the substantial investment, the actress asserted that production never commenced. “Despite repeated contacts, he kept postponing them and lied,” she alleged. Instead of proceeding with the television project, the funds were allegedly redirected to a film titled *So Long Valley*, which is set to release on July 27.
Tensions escalated when Ruchi confronted Karan upon learning about the film’s release. “When I got the information that the film is releasing on July 27, I told him to return my money now, but he started threatening me,” she told the police.
In response to the complaint, the Mumbai Police registered a case under sections 318(4), 352, and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Law enforcement officials have launched an investigation and are currently reviewing detailed bank transaction records, call data, and other supporting evidence submitted by Ruchi.
The actress previously drew public attention for donning a necklace bearing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s image at the Cannes Film Festival.
