New Delhi: After a celebrated career spanning over three decades, Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan was finally honoured with his first-ever National Film Award for his performance in Jawan on Friday (August 1). The iconic recognition was conferred upon the Bollywood superstar at the 71st National Film Awards.
Having made his film debut in 1992 with Deewana, SRK, fondly known as the ‘King of Bollywood’, had already garnered a staggering global fan base and numerous international accolades. However, a National Film Award had remained elusive. That changed with Jawan, a high-octane action drama that captivated audiences and critics alike.
The film broke box office records upon release and was praised for its stylised action sequences and Shah Rukh’s dual role. His portrayal in Jawan was hailed as one of the most compelling performances of the year, fusing intensity with emotion. In the wake of the award announcement, social media platforms were flooded with congratulatory messages from fans and industry peers, celebrating the long-overdue recognition.
Often dubbed the ‘Baadshah of Bollywood’, SRK has been the recipient of numerous honours, including India’s fourth-highest civilian award, the Padma Shri. Internationally, he has also been recognised by the French government with the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and the Legion of Honour. Yet, the National Award has added a new dimension to his legacy.
“While he has been ruling the hearts of audiences with his undeniable charm, wit, and outstanding performances for 33 years, a National Award is truly well deserved for the superstar,” read a statement widely circulated by fan pages following the announcement.
Jawan had been celebrated for blending action, drama, and social commentary, all anchored by Shah Rukh’s magnetic screen presence. Directed by Atlee, the film also starred Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara, Deepika Padukone, Ridhi Dogra and Sanya Malhotra in pivotal roles.
