New Delhi: Punjabi singer Baaz Sran, whose real name is Jagir Singh, was apprehended by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) nearly a decade after evading arrest in a high-profile drug trafficking case. The singer, originally from Sirsa, Haryana, had been wanted since 2016 for his alleged involvement in a case linked to the recovery of 36.15 kilograms of opium.
Authorities revealed that Jagir, also known as Kala, had successfully managed to stay off the radar for close to 10 years by changing his identity and location multiple times. During this period, he rebranded himself as Baaz Sran and built a new public persona as a Punjabi singer. His music was shared widely across YouTube and Instagram, earning him a significant following and mainstream attention.
How was Punjabi singer Baaz Sran arrested?
A senior official from NCB Chandigarh confirmed that Jagir was arrested on August 6, 2025, based on concrete intelligence. “His arrest marks a critical breakthrough in our fight against narcotics trafficking. We believe this will lead to more revelations about the drug network he was linked with,” the official said.
Interestingly, while living as a fugitive, Jagir managed to carve out a niche in the Punjabi music industry. He released numerous tracks and collaborated with a well-known female singer from Punjab. His videos, shared through a renamed account, garnered thousands of views. On Instagram alone, he had over 36,000 followers and continued posting content until the day before his arrest.
More details
In May 2025, NCB had intensified its search by publishing his photos in regional newspapers and announcing a Rs 50,000 reward for information leading to his capture. This move eventually helped track down the accused.
Despite his efforts to conceal his identity, Jagir's social media presence ultimately contributed to his downfall. The NCB’s dedicated surveillance team monitored his digital footprint, which eventually led them to his location.
Officials are now investigating possible links between Jagir and other members of the drug syndicate. His arrest is expected to unravel deeper connections within the narcotics network.
His case is being viewed as a reminder that, regardless of one’s fame or attempts at reinvention, the law inevitably catches up. “This arrest proves that no matter how well a criminal hides, justice will be served,” the NCB stated.
