New Delhi: Vivek Agnihotri's upcoming controversial film The Bengal Files is finally releasing in the theatres this weekend on Friday, September 5, 2025. The film has been in the news from the day of its trailer launch for various reasons. Vivek Agnihotri and controversies are often go hand-in-hand and The Bengal Files is no different. His last film The Kashmir Files, also courted controversy and was called a 'propaganda film', just like The Bengal Files. As per the reports of industry tracker Sacnilk, Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri's film has grossed more than Rs 6.24 lakh to date. With 1,928 tickets sold across 392 shows till 2 pm on September 3. The film, which is set to release on September 5, has started its box office run with modest numbers.
The film The Bengal Files is based on a socio-political drama. The director Vivek Agnihotri usually makes films in this genre. His last films, like The Kashmir Files and The Tashkent Files, are also based on a similar background. While his film Kashmir Files became a blockbuster movie of the year 2022 because of strong mouth publicity. The film shows the story of 1940, when communal violence took place in undivided Bengal. It also shows events like the 1946 Direct Action Day and the Noakhali riots of 1946, a Hindu genocide.
