New Delhi: The trailer of The Bengal Files has been unveiled, and it has already sparked intense conversations. Directed by Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri, the film is the third instalment in his acclaimed ‘Files’ franchise, following The Tashkent Files and The Kashmir Files.
This time, the spotlight has been placed on Bengal’s turbulent history. The narrative revisits the horrors of the 1946 Calcutta riots and the Noakhali massacre, incidents that left deep scars on the region’s cultural and social fabric.

From the opening frames, the trailer confronts audiences with haunting images. The streets are set ablaze, explosions are ripping through the city, and a landscape is stained with blood.
Veteran actor Anupam Kher has been cast as Mahatma Gandhi. His intense portrayal is seen against a backdrop of unrest, fear, and tragedy. Alongside him, Darshan Kumar appears in a fierce avatar. He perfectly embodies the rage and anguish of a generation caught in genocide. A striking sequence shows a Durga idol burning in flames. The trailer closes with the chilling line: "Bengal will haunt you.”

The project has not escaped controversy. The filmmakers have revealed that they received threats and harassment since announcing the film. Despite this, production moved forward with conviction. Additionally, The Bengal Files trailer launch, which had been running as a scheduled event, was suddenly halted midway by the hotel management, leaving attendees surprised and discussions abruptly cut short.

Mithun Chakraborty and Pallavi Joshi are also part of the ensemble cast, both appearing in emotionally layered roles. Their performances, glimpsed in brief but powerful shots, hint at the film’s focus on resilience amid devastation.
