Veteran actor Shri Govardhan Asrani passed away due to prolonged illness. He was one of Bollywood's most iconic comedy actors.
Mumbai: Veteran actor Shri Govardhan Asrani passed away October 20 at around 4 pm. The actor, who was 84 years old, was fighting illness for a long time. Sources close to the actor confirmed his passing.
His manager Babubhai Thiba stated that the actor was admitted ot Aroyaga Nidhi for the last four days due to issues with his lungs.
As per reports, the last rites have also been completed.
Shri Govardhan Asrani, best known as Asrani, is well known in the Hindi film industry for his comic acting. In addition to his outstanding comic timing, Asrani has proved to be a versatile actor by handling serious, negative, character roles as well.
Shri Govardhan Asrani's career
Asrani's career peaked in the late 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. He often appeared alongside superstars like Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan, and Dharmendra. His role in Sholay, that of a funny jailor, left a lasting impression on the audience. He has mesmerized fans with his performances in Chupke Chupke, Bawarchi, Aaj Ki Taaza Khabar, and Gol Maal.
His incredible talent has won him multiple accolades like the Filmfare Award for Best Comedian for films like Aaj Ki Taaza Khabar and Balika Badhu. He was also honoured multiple times with Lifetime Achievement Awards.
He is surely one of Bollywood's most iconic comedy actors.
