New Delhi: Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has moved the Delhi High Court to protect her publicity and personality rights. She raised objections to the unauthorised use of her name, photographs, and identity on various platforms and products. The actress also requested an injunction against the unauthorised use of her name, photograph, and AI-generated pornographic content.
On Tuesday (September 9), the court said that it will pass injunction orders to protect Aishwarya’s personality rights after she complained of her images being morphed and misused. The case will be heard in the next hearing scheduled on January 15, 2026.
Senior advocate Sandeep Sethi, representing Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, told the Delhi High Court that her likeness was being exploited without her consent by multiple entities on the internet, which is an infringement of her personality rights. The advocate further shared that her face was being plastered on coffee mugs, merchandise and even fake pornographic images, adding, “I am enforcing my publicity and personality rights.”
The lawyer, representing Aishwarya Rai, also presented the screenshots from YouTube and told the court, “These are never images belonging to Aishwarya Rai. Neither she has authorised such images. All AI-generated. Some intimate photographs which are completely unreal. Her name and likeness are used to satisfy someone’s sexual desires. Very unfortunate."
The court stated, “There are only 151 URLs which will form part of the order as far as you are concerned. You take down”, following Google’s counsel who referred to a past case involving the film, Andaz Apna Apna, where links were shared and taken down.
The judge also remarked, “We will pass orders against each of defendants because prayers are broad. But we will grant the injunction separately.”
