New Delhi: Malayalam blockbuster hit, Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, has courted a controversy after some social media users accused the film of promoting ‘anti-Hindu’ propaganda. Several users alleged that the film depicts certain scenes about Hinduism negatively. Meanwhile, the film is unstoppable at the box office and has collected over Rs 30 crore in just six days run.
Several social media users are slamming a particular scene showing a Hindu king setting fire to a temple, which has drawn widespread criticism. Some people also criticised the portrayal of converts and Christian missionaries as heroic figures in the superhero movie, which has led to boycott calls. Some even criticised the movie for allegedly disrespecting Hindu traditions.
Kalyani Priyadarshan’s movie Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra has been performing exceptionally well in Kerala. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film opened in theatres with Rs 2.7 crore, followed by minting Rs 4 crore on its second day, Rs 7,6 crore on its third day and Rs 10.1 crore on its fourth day. The film has now collected Rs 31.46 crore in its six-day run at the box office.
The film revolves around a young woman who discovers her supernatural abilities while facing personal challenges. As evil emerges, she launches a new superhero saga by accepting her powers and destiny. It stars Tovino Thomas, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Arun Kurian, Naslen, Chandu Salimkumar, Sandy Master, Santhy Balachandran, Vijayaraghavan, Sarath Sabha, Amith Mohan Rajeshwari, Nithyashri, Aadam, Nishanth Sagar, and Raghunath Paleri, among others. It is directed by Dominic Arun and produced by Dulquer Salmaan under Wayfarer Films.
