16-year-old girl gangraped at closed factory in West Bengal’s Hoogly, 2 held

The police said that the victim had entered the premises along with one of her friends. Just then, the accused arrived at the premises along with two of his accomplices. After forcing her friend to leave the spot, they allegedly assaulted the victim.

Hoogly: In a shocking incident, a 16-year-old girl was raped inside a closed factory in West Bengal’s Hoogly district. Two men have been arrested in the case. The incident reportedly took place on Thursday evening.

There were protests in the district after the incident came to light. A number of Opposition leaders claimed political links in the incident. The main accused has been identified as Dipankar Adhikari. He is believed to be local Trinamool Congress leader. Both the TMC and the police have refuted the claim, saying that the accused has no connection with the ruling party on the state.

Case has been registered

“A case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Two accused have been arrested and produced before the Serampore court. The victim has undergone a medical examination and the investigation is underway," a senior Hooghly district police officer said as per News18. He further said that the police was trying to find out whether more people were involved in the case.

Two more involved, claims Opposition

The Opposition has claimed that at least two more persons were involved in the case. Several leaders of CPI(M) staged aprotest outside the police station. They also claimed that a previous case against Adhikari gas not yet been acted on.

As per BJP leader Indranil Dutta, the accused committed the crime due to the political backing. “He had been acting with impunity for a long time, and this incident is a result of that," Dutta was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.
