6-year-old girl raped, murdered in UP’s Bulandshahr, accused shot in police encounter

A six-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped and murdered in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh. Police said the accused threw the child from a rooftop to hide their identity. Both suspects were arrested after being injured in a police encounter. Further investigation is underway.

New Delhi: A six-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped and murdered in Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh, police said on Friday. The incident took place late on January 2, when the child was playing on the rooftop of her residential building.

Police said they received information about a minor girl lying in a critically injured condition in a field located behind the building. She was immediately taken to the Community Health Centre in Sikandrabad, where doctors declared her dead, India Today reported.

Case registered

On the complaint of the victim’s father, police registered a case under Sections 70(2) and 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 5(m) and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

In his complaint, the father alleged that two men Raju and Veeru Kashyap who lived as tenants in the same building, were involved in the crime. He said his daughter went missing while playing on the rooftop and was later found lying in a nearby field, leading him to suspect sexual assault followed by murder.

Accused injured in encounter

Taking cognisance of the gravity of the case, the Senior Superintendent of Police constituted three teams to arrest the accused. Acting on a tip-off, police traced the suspects to an under-construction colony where they were hiding at the premises of a man identified as Idris.

Police said that when the Sikandrabad police team surrounded the area, the accused allegedly opened fire. The police retaliated, injuring both men in their legs during the encounter.

Confession during interrogation

The accused were arrested in an injured condition and admitted to a hospital for treatment. During preliminary interrogation, both reportedly confessed to their involvement in the crime, police said.

Further investigation is underway.
