New Delhi: Anmol Gagan Maan, a well-known Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and singer-turned-politician, announced her resignation from the Punjab Assembly on Sunday, ending her political career. The Kharar constituency's representative, Maan, resigned and gave her resignation to Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan.
“My heart is heavy, but I have decided to leave politics. My resignation from the post of MLA to the Speaker should be accepted,” Maan wrote in Punjabi on X (formerly Twitter).
“My best wishes are with the party. I hope the Punjab government will live up to the expectations of the people,” she added.
Maan briefly served as a minister in Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's cabinet after winning an MLA seat in the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections. She oversaw divisions including labor, hospitality, investment promotion, and tourism and culture during her time there. But in a reshuffle last year, she was removed from the cabinet. Maan was a well-known Punjabi singer before entering politics, having achieved success with songs like Suit, Ghaint Purpose and Sherni.
