Ahmedabad plane crash: How US government shutdown delaying probe into deadly Air India crash
Boeing 787-8 aircraft, which had just taken off from Ahmedabad airport for London, crashed soon after leaving 241 people dead.
Washington: Amid the ongoing government shutdown in the United States (US), the process of filing a lawsuit in the June 12 Boeing Air crash has been delayed. The lawsuit has been filed by the families of 125 victims. These are being represented by a firm called Beasley Allen.
Speaking to The Indian Express, a representative of the firm said they have asked for the data related to the Ahmedabad air crash that claimed 260 lives earlier this year, including that of former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani. The shutdown, however, delayed the process.
As per the firm’s Principal Attorney, Michael Andrews any response by the Federal Aviation Administration has been delayed due to the ongoing shutdown. He added that the firm currently represents the families of 125 victims. It may be noted here that Boeing 787-8 aircraft, which had just taken off from Ahmedabad airport for London, crashed soon after leaving 241 people dead. One person, a British citizen, survived the tragedy.
What Firm’s letter to FAA said
The firm sent a letter to the US Federal Aviation Administration on August 13, asking it to provide related information of the tragedy, including of the cockpit voice recorder, for the lawsuit. In the letter, the firm has asked for "Complete copy of all aircraft accident information gathered during the investigation involving Air India Flight 171, all Enhanced Airborne Flight Recorder, (EAFR), information, all pictures, video and diagrams from the accident site including but not limited to all engine, instruments and engine tear down or inspections along with all Cockpit Voice Recorder, CVR information to include all audio files and partial or full transcript.”
How firm plans to move with lawsuit
Andrews added, "Based on the FAA’s response and data from the onboard flight data recorder, if an investigation into the crash demands, Beasley Allen plans to move ahead with suing Boeing in a US court.” Earlier, Andrews also represented various families of aviation disasters. Among them were victims of the 2019 crash of the Ethiopian Airlines-run Boeing 737 MAX flight 302.
