Air-India glitches again: Indore-bound flight returns to Delhi after fire indication
An Air India flight was forced to make an emergency landing in Delhi, after one of its engines received a fire alert on Sunday. The flight AI2913 operating from Delhi to Indore returned to the National Capital after flying for 30 minutes.
New Delhi: An Air India flight on Sunday was forced to make an emergency landing in Delhi after its pilot received a fire warning in one of the engines. The Indore-bound flight received a fire indication in its right engine, after being in the air for over 30 minutes.
The flight AI2913, going to Indore, returned to the National capital at around 6:15 am on August 31. The aircraft had more than 90 passengers on board. An engine of the A320 Neo aircraft was shut down and the plane landed safely at the Delhi airport, Air India said in a statement.
Passengers transferred to alternative aircraft
After landing, the aircraft had been grounded for further inspection. "Flight AI2913, operating from Delhi to Indore on August 31, returned to Delhi shortly after take off, as the cockpit crew received a fire indication for the right engine," Air India added in a statement.
As per the Air India crew, they followed standard procedure by shutting down the engine and then the plane landed safely in Delhi. As per the airline authorities, passengers were being transferred to an alternative aircraft which will operate the flight to Indore shortly.
Sources say that no injuries have been reported so far. Air safety regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation has been duly informed about the incident, the airline said.
Similar incidents reported
In a similar incident in July, an Air India Express flight bound for Thailand's Phuket was forced to return to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad shortly after takeoff.
In another incident, an Air India flight from Riyadh in Saudi Arabia to Delhi was diverted to Jaipur due to severe weather conditions in the capital. Flight AI926, which was planned to land at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport at 1 am, was forced to reroute to Jaipur International Airport.
