Rain accompanied by strong winds is lashing several districts of Andhra Pradesh including Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Srikakulam on Monday.
Flash floods are likely in six Rayalaseema and three coastal districts while red alert has been issued for Srikakulam, Manyam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Alluri, Anakapalle, Kakinada, Konaseema, East and West Godavari, Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Palnadu, Bapatla, Prakasam districts, Jagannadha Kumar, Deputy Director, Visakhapatnam Cyclone Warning Centre said.
The Meteorological Department has declared a high alert in 42 villages in 9 mandals in Nellore. 16 cyclone shelters have been set up in West Godavari district. Rehabilitation centers have been prepared in Bhimavaram and Tadepalligudem.
NDRF teams have reached coastal areas of Machilipatnam. Holidays have already been declared for schools for 3 days in the cyclone-affected districts.
Cyclone Montha 570 km away from Kakinada:
In the past 6 hours, Cyclone Montha has moved at a speed of 17 kmph currently centered 480 km from Chennai, 530 km from Kakinada, 560 km from Visakhapatnam.
There is a possibility of intensifying into a severe cyclonic storm by Tuesday morning as it moves northwest. Strong gusty winds are likely at 90-110 kmph along the coast, Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority said. It will make landfall along the AP coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam on October 28.
The government has taken all measures to ensure that no loss of life occurs due to the cyclone's impact and to minimize property damage as much as possible, the APSDMA said.
43 trains cancelled:
East Central Railway has announced the cancellation of several trains operating in the Waltair region and connected routes. The cancellation is a precautionary measure based on the IMD alert reports.
Telangana weather forecast:
The weather department has forecast heavy rain for Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad and Nagarkurnool districts on October 27, 28. Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph is likely in Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Nirmal, Mulugu, Kothagudem, Wanaparthy among others.
Meanwhile, the IMD has issued orange alert for October 29, 30 for very heavy rainfall in Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpalli, Mulugu, Adilabad, Asifabad districts.
