Kakinada: TDP leader who was arrested on Wednesday in a POCSO case for attempting to sexually assault a minor girl, died by suicide in the outskirts of Tuni, Kakinada district of Andhra Pradesh, tv9 telugu reported.
The accused, Tatika Narayan Rao, 60, jumped into the pond at 10:30 pm near the Komati lake near Tuni, the police said. He took the step when he was being escorted by the police to be produced before the magistrate. When police halted the jeep, he suddenly said that he needed a toilet break and jumped into the pond.
“We searched for his body throughout the night but in vain. We recovered the body only in the morning after resuming search,” Rural Circle Inspector Chennakesava Rao said.
Arrested in POCSO case:
Narayana Rao was arrested for reportedly luring a 13-year-old student from a Gurukul school while pretending to be her grandfather. He took her to a mango orchard in the outskirts of Tuni and attempted to molest her.
The owner of the orchard reportedly noticed suspicious activity and recorded it on video. Upon realisation, the man fled the scene with the girl immediately. It came to light when the girl’s parents filed a complaint with the police. He was later tracked down and arrested.
AP Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh expressed deep shock and outrage over the incident and vowed to deal with the issue with an iron hand and that anyone who is involved in such crimes will face punishment without leniency.

Meanwhile, Narayan Rao's son, Tatika Suresh said in a Facebook post, "In my opinion he was gone a long time ago."
