How bad is the situation?

Despite IndiGo’s repeated claims of offering alternate flights, refunds, and accommodation, passengers are losing patience amid the unprecedented disruption. Here are a few episodes of frustration witnessed at airports. A passenger travelling from Delhi to Lucknow said his 7:30 am flight was cancelled, leaving him with no option but to travel by bus, train, or taxi.

A couple headed to Guwahati for a conference said their flight was cancelled, and the next available ticket cost them Rs 50,000. They had no choice but to book it, as they had a connecting flight to catch.

Mahim, a third passenger, travelled 36 hours from Washington to Delhi, only to find his connecting flight to Ahmedabad cancelled. He booked a flight to Udaipur instead and planned to figure out the rest of the journey later.

A heartbreaking video also emerged on social media on Friday, showing a helpless father at Bengaluru airport requesting a sanitary napkin for his daughter. He can be heard saying, “Sister, mere beti ko pad chahiye… neeche se blood aa raha hai. Dedo.” (“My daughter needs sanitary pads… she is bleeding.”)

Desperate situations require desperate measures

Acknowledging the gravity of the crisis, the Civil Aviation Ministry has ordered a high-level probe into the disruptions. The investigation aims to identify gaps in accountability and recommend measures to avoid such crises in the future. The ministry has also set up a 24×7 control room to assist stranded passengers.
