Assembly Elections 2025: Bihar records historical voter turnout, 66.90% people cast their votes, shows EC data

The second phase of Assembly Elerctions in Bihar saw voter turnout of 68.76%, taking the overall voter turnout in the state to 66.90%. The increase in voter turnout in the state is historical, as this is the highest ever voter turnout recorded in the state since its first Assembly Elections in 1951. The results for the elections will be declared on November 14.

New Delhi: Bihar voted in a 2-phase elections on November 6 and November 11. The Election Commission (EC) put the overall voter turnout in the state at 66.90 per cent. This is a historical number, as the state has recorded the highest turnout ever since its first elections in 1951, post Independence of the country in 1947. In the 2020 Assembly Elections, the state recorded 57.29% voter turnout.

Women outnumber male voters

According to the report shared by the EC, the women voter turnout was higher in the state, than men. The voter turnout for women was 71.6%, while for males it was 62.8%.

One must also note that, overall polling in the second phase of elections in Bihar was higher than the first. While the first phase recorded a voter turnout of 65.08%, the second phase saw voter turnout increase to 68.76%. Similar was the case with women voter turnout. In the first phase of elections, 69.04% of registered women voters cast their votes, while the number increased to 74.03% in the second phase, held on November 11.

A total of 7,45,26,858 people are registered as voters in Bihar. While 3,75,13,302 were to vote in the first phase, another 3,70,13,556 voted in the second phase of elections. Elections were conducted by over 8.5 lakh polling staff, across the 243 Assembly constituencies in the state.

If one looks at absolute figures, one finds that 2.51 crore women voted, compared to 2.47 crore men. Though more men are registered as voters in Bihar than women, when it came to voting, women outnumbered them, casting 50.4% of the votes. The gender ratio in the state when it came to casting the vote was 1018 women per 1,000 men.

A total of 1.4 lakh poll agents were appointed by the 2,616 contesting candidates. There were 243 general observers, 38 police observers and 67 expenditure observers. The Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar along with ECs Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi monitored the conduct of the elections from the Control Centre in ECI through webcasting facility provided across all polling stations.

The results for the elections will be declared on November 14.
