New Delhi: Indian left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav, on Thursday, opened up on his role in the Indian cricket team and also expressed his aim of excelling in the Test format. Kuldeep, who was speaking on JioStar's 'Follow The Blues' also admitted that playing in all the three formats now a days is a luxury but it is an attacking mindset that has kept him relevant in the face of stiff competition.

Considered as one of the best spinners, Kuldeep returned home from Australia mid-way through a five-match T20I series to prepare for the South Africa Test and made a good impact in Kolkata, claiming four wickets despite the hosts losing the game by 30 runs. The star spinner said that he wants to maintain absolute fitness in order to remain active in the longest format.

'Obviously, you want to play in all formats, but if you get a chance to play Test cricket, you enjoy it. Playing in all formats for India is a luxury,' Kuldeep said.

The bowler also said that everyone is in awe of Test cricket as it is a format that is liked by all but admitted at the same time it is also very challenging. Shedding light on his career, Kuldeep said that the next 4 to 5 years are important for him in Test cricket so he will try and focus on the longest format and aim at performing well.

Kuldeep added that he has clarity about his role and the support of the team management, which helps him go in matches with an attacking mindset.

'I am very clear as an attacking bowler, I know my role over the years. The coach and the captain have given me a lot of clarity and support. I always keep an attacking mindset and bowl accordingly. That's my job; taking wickets. That's how they (coaches) look at me.'
