Bengaluru: A 24-year-old woman working at a bank was brutally attacked inside her paying guest (PG) accommodation under the Whitefield police limits after resisting sexual advances from a fellow resident. According to East Division Joint Commissioner of Police Ramesh Banoth, the accused, identified as Babu, had befriended the woman while staying in the same PG. He allegedly asked her for sexual favours and when she refused, he stabbed her with a knife and demanded Rs 70,000.
The injured woman was rushed to hospital by her friends and is undergoing treatment. Police arrested Babu soon after the incident. Preliminary investigation revealed that Babu, originally from Andhra Pradesh, is married and has a child. He was working as a software engineer in Bengaluru and staying in PG accommodations, where he is suspected to have committed similar offences against other women.
Locals who caught him after the attack thrashed him before handing him over to the police. Babu has since filed a counter-complaint against those who assaulted him. Police said two cases have now been registered: for the attack on the woman and another based on the accused’s complaint. Further investigation is underway.
