Nitish Kumar set to take oath as Bihar CM for 10th time today, PM Modi likely to attend
On Wednesday, Nitish Kumar was elected as the leader of the coalition's legislative party in the Bihar Assembly. He then met Governor Arif Mohammed Khan and staked claim to form the government. In the recently concluded Assembly polls, NDA won 202 of 243 Assembly seats.
Patna: Nitish Kumar is all set to take oath as Bihar Chief Minister for 10th time on Thursday. Along with him, other JDU leaders, BJP leaders and some leaders of other NDA partners are also expected to take oath. The swearing-in ceremony will be held at Ramlila Maidan this morning.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Ministers of several states, and other dignitaries are likely to attend the swearing-in.
Nitish Kumar meets governor, stakes claim
A day ahead of the swearing-in, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar met Governor Arif Mohammed Khan and tendered his resignation. He also staked claim to form the next government. With NDA all set to form the government on Thursday, Kumar will also take the oath as CM for the tenth time.
During the meeting, the Governor accepted his resignation and asked Kumar to continue as caretaker chief minister until a new government is sworn-in. He was accompanied by Union minister Chirag Paswan, RLM supremo Upendra Kushwaha and Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, among others.
Earlier in the day, he was elected as the leader of the coalition’s legislative party in the Bihar Assembly. He was earlier elected as JDU legislature party leader in a meeting at the party office.
BJP names Samrat Choudhary as leader of legislative party
Meanwhile, the BJP MLAs chose Samrat Choudhary as the leader of the legislative party and Vijay Kumar Sinha as deputy leader, paving way for them to become Deouty Chief Ministers as in the previous government.
On Thursday, the swearing-in ceremony of the new government will be held at Gandhi Maidan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, chief ministers of various states and other dignitaries are expected to attend the swearing-in.
