Bilaspur train accident death toll rises to 11, rail services resume

Bilaspur: The death toll in the train accident near Bilaspur Railway station has increased to 11, officials said on Wednesday. The number of injured also increased to 20. How the accident take place?
As per officials, the accident took place at around 4 PM last evening. At the time of the accident, the MEMU train was on its way to Bilaspur from Gevra, when its collided with a goods train from behind. The spot of the accident was 5 km from the city.
The accident was so severe that a coach of the passenger train was found at the top of a wagon of the goods train, an official, who was aware of the matter, said. While the Railway has ordered a probe into the accident, the investigation will be conducted at the level of the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) to determine the reasons behind the incident and recommend corrective measures.
Was the loco pilot at fault?
Sharing further details of the accident, officials said that the reason behind the accident could be Signal Passed At Danger (SPAD). It added that the Loco Pilot of the passenger train might have missed the signal in red position. According to reports, the section features an automatic signalling system.
An official statement later announced a compensation of Rs 19 lakh for kin of the deceased and Rs 5 lakh for the kin of the seriously injured passengers. Those who received minor injuries will receive Rs 1 lakh compensation, it added. The Chhattisgarh Government too announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
