BJP accuses Congress of links with ‘anti-India’ global groups over Rahul Gandhi’s Germany visit

The Bharatiya Janata Party has intensified its attack on the Congress, accusing it of colluding with what it describes as "anti-India" global forces. The BJP cited senior Congress leader Sam Pitroda's remarks on Rahul Gandhi's association with the Global Progressive Alliance during his Germany visit. Party leaders alleged that the alliance promotes narratives hostile to India and has links to George Soros-backed organisations

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday launched a fresh attack on the Congress, alleging that it is working in tandem with “anti-India” forces. The ruling party cited Rahul Gandhi’s participation in the Global Progressive Alliance during his recent visit to Germany as evidence of what it described as an international nexus.

The BJP’s charges were based on remarks made by senior Congress leader Sam Pitroda, who spoke about Rahul Gandhi’s association with the alliance. According to the BJP, the Global Progressive Alliance propagates narratives that are hostile to India and has links to US-based billionaire George Soros, a figure the party has repeatedly accused of backing organisations critical of the country.

BJP cites Pitroda

Addressing the media, BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi said Pitroda’s comments had unintentionally revealed what he termed the Congress party’s true orientation. “Rahul Gandhi's long-time advisor, Sam Pitroda, who was also an advisor to his late father and the architect of his ideological mindset and psychology, has inadvertently exposed the real face of the Congress party. In an interview yesterday, he said that the Congress party is part of an alliance called the 'Global Progressive Alliance,' and Rahul Gandhi had gone to Germany to participate in it,” Trivedi said.

He further alleged that the alliance was connected to groups that work against India. “This Alliance is connected to an organisation that is part of a network of many organisations that are anti-India and promote anti-India narratives... When Sam Pitroda is asked about the connection between the Global Progressive Alliance and the Congress, he himself reveals that Rahul Gandhi is on its praesidium and Sam Pitroda is a member... After Sam Pitroda's statement, I want to ask the Congress party if they become a member of the anti-India global conspiracy, if they become a member of the nefarious nexus of anti-India global forces?” he questioned.

Soros links alleged

The BJP also shared a video clip of Pitroda on social media, accusing the Congress of openly admitting Rahul Gandhi’s engagement with what it called Soros-linked networks. “Now Congress is not even pretending. Senior Congress leader Sam Pitroda has openly acknowledged Rahul Gandhi’s engagements with Soros-linked global networks. A foreign-funded ideological ecosystem, operating under the banner of 'progressivism', is openly influencing Indian politics. The question is no longer whether these links exist, but why they are being accepted so casually. When will Rahul Gandhi answer these questions?” the party said in its post.

The latest criticism follows Rahul Gandhi’s Germany visit, during which he toured BMW’s Munich headquarters and criticised the Centre’s handling of the manufacturing sector. “Manufacturing is the backbone of strong economies. Sadly, in India, manufacturing is declining. For us to accelerate growth, we need to produce more—build meaningful manufacturing ecosystems and create high-quality jobs at scale,” he said.

Earlier allegations revived

The BJP’s renewed offensive also echoes allegations made earlier this year. Party spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia had then accused the Congress and Rahul Gandhi of working with foreign entities to undermine India’s interests. In February, Bhatia claimed that organisations linked to George Soros were involved in “anti-India activities” and alleged that funding to certain NGOs was higher during the Congress-led UPA government than under the current BJP administration.
