New Delhi: The Union Ministry of Communications has stated that the Department of Posts (DoP), as part of the IT Modernisation Project 2.0, has rolled out the Advanced Postal Technology (APT) platform. On Thursday, Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development Dr Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar stated it in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha.
The APT is an indigenous, cloud-based digital platform. The Centre for Excellence in Postal Technology (CEPT) has developed it, and the platform is hosted on MeghRaj 2.0 Cloud. It has been created to meet the growing customer expectations and was launched nationwide on August 4, 2025.
According to the ministry, the platform has integrated around 1.70 lakh offices across 23 postal circles. Also, Branch Post Offices now have Android smartphones running in-house Digital Rural Enterprise Application for Mobile (DREAM) to further strengthen service delivery, better connectivity and user experience in rural areas. A total of 25022 Departmental Post Offices are networked under the Core Banking Solution.
Today, thanks to the modernisation of postal services, every postman and Grameen Dak Sevak (GDS) in the country has a smartphone and a biometric device, which has brought banking services to the doorstep.
The Department of Posts, through the India Post Payments Bank (IPPB), has expanded its financial services like account opening, Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AePS), Digital Life Certificate (DLC), insurance services through third-party, Post-Office Savings Account linkage, credit referral facility, mobile number update in Aadhaar for any citizen and Child Aadhaar enrolment services for any child under 5 years. In India, all post offices provide people with IPPB services and are connected to the IPPB Core Banking Solution (CBS).
