New Delhi: In a significant leap towards enhancing the pilgrimage experience, the Centre unveiled the "Haj Suvidha Mobile App," a cornerstone of its comprehensive modernisation drive for Hajj infrastructure.
This digital innovation is designed to streamline the journey for pilgrims heading to Mecca. The advanced app offers an end-to-end online solution that integrates with extensive upgrades across medical and physical facilities.
Union Minister of Minority Affairs, Shri Kiren Rijiju, shared these details in a written reply in Rajya Sabha on Monday, outlining how these initiatives collectively promise greater comfort, safety, efficiency, and accessibility for Indian Hajj pilgrims.
Hajj Suvidha Mobile App and a fully digitised portal
At the heart of the modernisation effort is the Hajj Suvidha Mobile App, alongside a fully digitised portal. These digital tools are set to revolutionise the pilgrim experience by enabling:
End-to-end online registration: Simplifying the initial application process.
Seamless payments: Facilitating financial transactions with ease.
Health uploads: Allowing pilgrims to manage and submit their health records digitally.
Real-time tracking: Providing pilgrims with up-to-the-minute information on their journey and logistics.
Direct feedback mechanisms: Empowering pilgrims to share their experiences and grievances for immediate action.
These features aim to ensure a hassle-free and transparent experience for every pilgrim, leveraging technology to manage the complex logistics of the sacred journey.
Robust medical infrastructure in Saudi Arabia
Beyond the digital realm, the government has significantly upgraded medical support in Saudi Arabia to cater to pilgrims' health needs. A comprehensive medical network is now operational, featuring:
Round-the-clock clinics: Ensuring constant medical accessibility.
Mobile medical teams: Providing on-the-go medical assistance.
Dedicated dental units: Addressing oral health concerns.
Emergency services: Ready to respond to urgent medical situations.
These services are bolstered by a dedicated team of doctors, paramedics, and pharmacists, coupled with continuous health monitoring protocols, ensuring pilgrims receive immediate and quality care.
Enhanced physical infrastructure for comfort and safety
The modernisation extends to physical infrastructure, meticulously planned months to secure optimal conditions for pilgrims. Key improvements include:
Accommodation in Makkah and Madinah: Buildings are inspected and booked well in advance to secure closer and better-quality lodging.
Upgraded transport fleets: Modern vehicles ensure comfortable and efficient movement for pilgrims.
Airport shuttles: Streamlined transfers between airports and accommodations.
AC-equipped tents in Mina/Arafat: Providing climate-controlled comfort during key rituals.
Enhanced training facilities: Hajj House Mumbai and regional centres have seen upgrades to better prepare pilgrims.
Embarkation points: Infrastructure at all embarkation points across India is regularly assessed and expanded in close coordination with State Haj Committees and other stakeholders, with development works executed by the Haj Committee of India.
Strengthening coordination for Hajj-2026
Looking ahead, the government has instituted several measures to improve coordination among the Ministry, the Hajj Committee of India, and State Hajj Committees for the preparations for Hajj–2026. This includes:
Strengthened institutional coordination: Through periodic review meetings.
Detailed guidelines and timelines: For all operational activities.
Regular consultations: To streamline accommodation, transport, training, and other logistical arrangements.
Special focus on safety, convenience, and logistical support
Recognising the unique needs of senior citizens and first-time pilgrims, the government has rolled out initiatives to enhance their safety, convenience, and overall support:
Improved state Hajj inspector (SHI) ratio: The ratio has been significantly improved from 1:300 to 1:200, and further to 1:150, to provide better on-ground assistance.
Enhanced SHI quality: Personnel are now selected through a Computer-Based Test and interview, ensuring the deployment of well-trained individuals.
Robust medical support: Including comprehensive pre-departure screening and improved medical arrangements throughout the Hajj operations.
Advanced digital facilitation: Beyond the app, this includes providing Hajj Suvidha Smart Watches to all pilgrims for Hajj 2026. These watches will assist with navigation, tracking, and emergency alerts within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Better facilitation at embarkation points: Along with enhanced coordination for accommodation, transport, and movement in Saudi Arabia.
Focused orientation and training: Tailored programs, especially for first-time pilgrims, to prepare them thoroughly for the journey.
