He reportedly said, "No other Prime Minister has visited Assam as much as I have. I want the culture of Assam to be recognised globally, and initiatives have been underway in this regard." Hailing the immense cultural significance of Bagurumba dance, he said the performance reflected the traditions, values and cultural consciousness of the Bodo community.

He said, "Today’s Bagurumba dance event is a lively festival of Bodo identity. It is a tribute to the Bodo society and Assam’s rich heritage. The event is to honour the Bodo society and remember the heroes of the community."

Congress feel discomfort at Assam's culture: PM Modi

PM Modi, during his speech, attacked Congress and said, "When we honour Assam’s culture and identity, there are some people who feel discomfort. It’s the Congress party which opposed conferring the Bharat Ratna on Bhupen Hazarika. The party also opposed the setting up of a semiconductor facility in Assam."

He added, "Congress doesn’t like the people of Assam; they love foreign infiltrators, as they come here and become hardcore supporters of the party. That’s why the party encouraged infiltrators, who in turn encroached on large tracts of land. I am happy that the present government under CM (chief minister) Himanta Biswa Sarma is freeing lakhs of bighas of encroached land."

PM Modi lauded the state’s transformation, where the sound of gunshots has been replaced by the sound of musical instruments. He noted that the Bodo Peace Accord ended years of unrest and led to the prosperity of the state, and brought Bodoland into the mainstream.
