New Delhi: A powerful blast in central Bengaluru’s Wilson Garden on Friday morning claimed the life of a 10-year-old boy and left nine others injured. The explosion, suspected to have been triggered by a cylinder leak, damaged about six houses in the densely populated Chinnayanpalya area, where homes are closely built and often share boundaries.
Officials said the injured were rushed to hospital, and rescue operations are still underway. However, Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh cautioned that “it is too early to ascertain the exact cause” of the incident. According to Singh, the explosion occurred in a rented house occupied by a family of three. The man of the house had left for work, while his wife and child were injured in the blast. The boy who died, identified as Mubarak, lived in a neighbouring house.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah visited the site later in the day, offering condolences to the bereaved family. “A boy named Mubarak has died. There is information that nine people have been injured. Currently, treatment is being given to everyone. All have been admitted to hospitals and are receiving treatment,” he said.
The chief minister announced Rs 5 lakh compensation for the victim’s family and assured that the government would bear the medical expenses of the injured. Police said the control room received a call about the incident at around 8.30 am, after which the bomb disposal squad, anti-terrorism squad, State Disaster Response Force, fire brigade, and local police rushed to the spot.
“We are clearing the houses that are damaged, investigation is on,” said Kumar.
