Delhi Red Fort blast: Retired school principal detained in Assam over objectionable comment
The detention of the former school principal came hours after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that his government would once again start the social media crackdown that was earlier initiated in the aftermath of Pahalgam terror attack.
Guwahati: The Assam Police have arrested a retired school principal in Cachar district of the state for linking the horrific car blast in Delhi with Bihar assembly polls, which concluded today. The retired person was the headmaster of a government school.
As per the police, he was detained for writing ‘Election is coming’ on a post sharing the Delhi car blast in which eight people lost their lives and several others were injured. The second phase of the Bihar Assembly polls ended today.
The accused tried to give a political angle: Police
Confirming the detention, Cachar Police ASP (Crime) Rajat Kumar Pal said that the accused tried to give political angle to the terrible blast. Speaking to The Indian Express, he said, "Yesterday, there was a very big blast in Delhi, which is being investigated by various agencies. This is national news. Some people are trying to misuse and politicise this news, because of which divisions can be created among different communities. It can lead to an increase in the chances of communal incidents.”
He added, "Our social media cell was alerted that one person living in the Silchar area… commented on a social media post, which tried to give a political angle to this news. We have apprehended this person, and he is being questioned on his motivations behind making this post.”
Assam Govt to start social media crackdown again
The detention of the former school principal came hours after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that his government would once again start the social media crackdown that was earlier initiated in the aftermath of Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 people lost their lives. Around 97 people lost their lives after the incident.
"After the Pahalgam incident, and even yesterday (Monday), we saw one set of people either appreciating this incident or posting some emojis with a lot of joy. That means that these people support terrorists,” the paper quoted the CM as saying further.
