New Delhi: Three officials of Haryana's Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) have been booked by the Haryana Police for allegedly forcing two women sanitation workers to take photos of their private parts and sanitary pads.
According to the allegation filed by the women, they were forced to do so to prove that they were menstruating. The Rohtak-based University has suspended two sanitation supervisors and has ordered a probe. The police have registered an FIR against the alleged perpetrators, Vitender and Vinod Hooda, and assistant registrar Shyam Sunder at PGIMS police station.
The SHO of the university, Roshan Lal, said, "The FIR includes charges under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for sexual harassment, assault or use of criminal force with intent to disrobe and outrage a woman’s modesty, criminal intimidation, and acts intended to insult the modesty of a woman."
The sanitation workers filed a complaint, based on which the police have registered an FIR. The complainants included two women who had been allegedly pressurised by their male supervisors to click photos of their private parts.
The incident took place on October 26, just hours before Haryana Governor Ashim Kumar Ghosh’s scheduled visit to the university campus. The sanitation workers were cleaning the sports complex, and the supervisors allegedly harassed and pressured them to work faster despite them being unwell. The supervisors allegedly said, "You click photos of your private parts as proof so that the menstrual cycle can be confirmed." Two of them complied, and two refused.
Sanitation workers are protesting over the incident, and they are being supported by the students. Haryana State Safai Karamchari Aayog chairperson Krishan Kumar met the sanitation workers, assuring them that there will be a fair probe.
