Fog and cold allowed duo to carry out gangrape on Gurgaon–Faridabad road as victims cries went unheard
Battling multiple fractures and deep wounds in the ICU, the survivor's ordeal went unheard for nearly three hours amid thick fog, biting cold, and an isolated stretch of road. Police have arrested two van drivers and are awaiting a formal identification parade, as the survivor remains in critical condition and unable to give a statement.
New Delhi: She was gang-raped, brutally assaulted and then thrown out of the moving car on the Gurugram-Faridabad Road. The 25-year-old survivor is battling multiple fractures and deep wounds in the ICU of a private hospital, while questions arise over why her desperate cries for help went unheard for almost three hours.
Thick fog, biting cold, and a deserted stretch of road may have given the alleged rapists the opportunity to carry out the heinous crime, leaving her frantic screams unanswered.
The case reportedly took place in the early hours of Tuesday on the winding, little populated Gurgaon-Faridabad, PTI reported, citing police officials.
Identification parade to be conducted
Police have arrested two van drivers in the case. An identification parade will be carried out to nab the culprits.
Faridabad police has said that the identities of the accused are being withheld, as the survivor has yet to formally identify them in a parade, a Times of India report said. According to a PTI report, the survivor is in a critical condition and is currently unable to make a statement. The two accused -- one from Uttar Pradesh and the other from Madhya Pradesh -- were arrested and produced in a city court on Wednesday. Later, they were sent to judicial custody.
The PTI report said that the survivor is a mother of three, and had been living with her parents following some quarrel with her husband. The TOI report pointed out that the woman had reportedly left her house following a heated argument with her mother and had told her sister that she was going to a friend's place in Sector 23.
She accepted lift offer
The woman had intended to leave for home early, but she got delayed. She left the friend's place by midnight and waited for transport near Metro Chowk. As she couldn't get any public transport, she accepted a lift offered by two men in a white Eeco van.
She was held captive in vehicle for 3 hours
Instead of driving towards her home, the duo allegedly drove the vehicle to an unfrequented place on the Gurugram-Faridabad road. They took turns to rape her. They took the woman beyond the Hanuman temple on the stretch, driving through isolated pockets blanketed in thick fog.
Investigators said that the woman was assaulted and held captive in the vehicle for almost three hours even as she screamed for help during the entire ordeal. However, due to foggy conditions, poor visibility, severe cold and scarce traffic on the road, her cries were left unheard.
Police officials were quoted as saying to PTI that the accused reportedly drove her around through the night and then threw her out of a moving van near Raja Chowk in Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Nagar, Faridabad, between 3 am and 4 am on Tuesday. The vehicle was reportedly traveling at over 90 kmph when the assault ended.
The woman bled profusely, but she managed to call her sister who rushed to the spot and took her to Badshah Khan Civil hospital in Faridabad. As her injuries were serious, the hospital advised the family to shift her to Delhi for treatment. However, she was taken to another private hospital in Faridabad.
Two deep cuts on face, 20 stitches
The woman has sustained significant injuries, including broken facial cavities and a dislocated shoulder. A senior police official, citing doctors, said the survivor suffered a fractured right eye socket, a fractured and dislocated shoulder, and two deep facial cuts that required over 20 stitches.
A case has been registered at Kotwali police station under sections 70(1) (gang rape), 351(3) (criminal intimidation) and 3(5) (acts committed by multiple persons) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
