New Delhi: US President Donald Trump’s images with Jeffrey Epstein were projected onto the walls of Britain’s Windsor Castle by protesters on Tuesday. Four people have been arrested in this connection. The US president is supposed to stay in the castle during his second state visit to the UK. Trump and his wife will be hosted by King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
Trump landed in Britain late on Tuesday for the second state visit, as per a Reuters report. He is set to be welcomed by King Charles on Wednesday for a day of pageantry at Windsor Castle, located about 25 miles west of London.
Before Trump’s arrival at Windsor Castle, several protesters converged at the site to voice their protest against the US president’s visit. They displayed a large banner with a photo of Trump and Epstein and later projected images of the two onto the castle’s towers.
The Led by Donkeys group, which is known for its viral stunts targeting politicians, broadcast a video montage for several minutes onto one of the towers of Windsor Castle, west of London, an AFP report said.
The visuals — displayed minutes before Trump’s arrival in Britain — featured the president’s mugshot, images of Epstein, newspaper headlines, and footage of the two dancing together, the report added.
In a statement, the local police said four adults were arrested on suspicion of malicious communications after an "unauthorised projection" at Windsor Castle. It was dubbed as a "public stunt" by the police.
Chief Superintendent of Thames Valley Police, Felicity Parker, said: "We take any unauthorised activity around Windsor Castle extremely seriously. Our officers responded swiftly to stop the projection and four people have been arrested."
A thorough investigation has been launched into the incident.
Trump is facing a huge challenge while trying to distance himself from stories which link him to his former associate Epstein, who died in prison in 2019 before standing trial for sexual exploitation. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has also been impacted, as he dismissed his ambassador to Washington after it was revealed that the envoy had close connections with the sex offender.
On Thursday, Trump is set to hold political and economic talks with Starmer at the PM's country residence before returning to the US.
