New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Provincial Police Service (PPS) officer Rishikant Shukla has been suspended after Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Kanpur Police has unearthed unaccounted assets of around Rs 100 crore from him. The police officer is also being accused of having links with Akhilesh Dubey, a prominent lawyer in the city. Meanwhile, Rishikant Shukla has denied all the charges of alleged corruption.

Shukla had been posted in Kanpur for a long time. Since joining the department, Shukla served in Kanpur city for 8 years between 1998 to 2006. Later, he was posted as Station House Officer (SHO) between 2006 to 2009. Following his promotion, he was elevated to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and was posted in Unnao. He was currently serving in Mainpuri district.

Recently, police had arrested prominent Kanpur lawyer Akhilesh Dubey, who was accused of falsely implicating BJP leader Ravi Sateja in a rape case. An SIT probe was underway in this case and it was claimed that Dubey had employed local journalists, policemen in his gang. During the probe, Rishikant Shukla's name also cropped up, said a report in Hindi daily Dainik Jagran.

The newspaper report claimed it lay hand on a letter written to Chief Secretary (Vigilance Department) which stated that a probe be initiated against Circle Officer (CO) Rishikant Shukla related to disproportionate assets case.

What govt letter says about Shukla's properties

The letter further stated that the Bhogaon CO, Rishikant Shukla, has amassed assets disproportionate to his income and those assets are registered in the name of his family and associates. Some of these properties located at 12 sites have a current market value of Rs 92 cr. Shukla also has properties at three other location, but there are no documentary proofs available. It is alleged that all the properties are linked to the PAN number of Shukla.
