Fugitive in Abu Dhabi double murder case arrested in Chennai

New Delhi: After a relentless three-year pursuit, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has achieved a breakthrough, apprehending Shamim K K, a prime fugitive accused in the sensational Abu Dhabi double murder case.
Shamim, who had been on the run since the heinous crime, was finally cornered and arrested in Chennai, marking a major development in the high-profile international investigation. A Lookout Circular (LOC) had long been issued for his capture.
The grim saga began on March 5, 2020, in Abu Dhabi, where two Indian expatriates, Haris Thattamma Parambil and Dency Antony, were discovered dead under deeply suspicious circumstances. Initially, authorities had treated the tragic deaths as suicides. However, meticulous investigation and subsequent revelations irrevocably pointed towards a meticulously planned double murder.
According to the CBI's findings, the architect of this chilling murder was allegedly Shaibin Ashraf, a man reportedly consumed by envy over Haris's burgeoning business success and growing influence as a business consultant in Abu Dhabi. The investigation indicates that Shaibin meticulously crafted an elaborate conspiracy aimed at seizing Haris’s thriving business and substantial financial assets.
The CBI alleged that Shaibin went so far as to finance and dispatch several individuals from India to the Gulf countries, orchestrating the brutal murders of both Haris and Dency Antony. Following the killings, the crime scene was expertly manipulated to create the illusion of a suicide, a ruse that initially succeeded in misleading investigators.
The complexities of the case initially placed it under the purview of the Kerala Police. However, persistent pleas and mounting questions from the victims’ grief-stricken families prompted a crucial intervention. In November 2022, the Kerala High Court, recognising the gravity and international dimensions of the case, mandated its transfer to the CBI.
Following an exhaustive and detailed investigation spanning months, the CBI officially filed a chargesheet in October 2024 against a total of eight accused people, including Shamim K K, who by then had vanished into hiding.
Shamim's evasion of justice came to an end with CBI's sophisticated investigative techniques. Through a combination of continuous, discreet surveillance and advanced technical analysis, the federal agency meticulously tracked his movements. This persistent effort ultimately led them to his hideout in Chennai, where he was apprehended.
A separate case, CP No. 4/2025, has already been registered against Shamim KK. He is now slated to be produced before the appropriate court, where he will face further proceedings related to his alleged involvement in the heinous double murder and his prolonged attempt to escape justice.
