New Delhi: An outing ended in a tragedy when four young MBBS interns, who were coming back to their university campus after a party, lost their lives in a horrifying crash on Delhi–Lucknow National Highway in Uttar Pradesh's Amroha late on Wednesday night.
The accident happened after their Swift Dzire rammed into a stationary truck, police said. All four youth were the sole sons in their families, making the tragedy even more heartbreaking.
It was around 10.30 pm that the car hit the truck near Atrasi village. The accident site is around 7 km from Shri Venkateshwara University in Gajraula, where the four were interning after having completed their MBBS as part of the 2020 batch.
The DCM (truck) was loaded with mattress and parked on the service road when the car crashed into it from the rear. Police reportedly said that the impact of the collision was so strong that front portion of the car was stuck deep inside the DCM truck. The car was extricated from the truck using a tractor, and the mangled parts were cut to pull out the bodies.
All the victims were in their early 20s. They have been identified as Dr Arnab Chakraborty (25) of Belgharia North in West Bengal; Dr Ayush Sharma of Delhi; Dr Shrestha Pancholi of Delhi; and Dr Saptarishi (24) of Ramnagar, Agartala (Tripura). They died instantly following the crash. Police said the families of the victims were informed and the bodies were sent for post-mortem examination after they arrived.
According to the locals, they heard a loud noise and came rushing to the site. By the time they reached the place, the car’s roof had been torn off and the front seats had been crushed. Blood had spilled across the inside of the car. both front airbags had opened.
Police identified the four youth through their Aadhaar cards. After ascertaining their identity, the university management and families were informed.
