How the Orange Economy is rising under PM Modi

PM Modi has often noted that Orange Economy is not mere culture, its capital. He sees the Orange Economy as a crucial growth area that can boost exports, generate employment opportunities for young people, and increase India’s presence in the global economy.

Under him, the creative economy has witnessed a boom. Different sectors like film, music, digital content, gaming, arts, and design are being given an impetus by a slew of government initiatives. India today is well-positioned in the creative economy and is receiving global recognition.

India’s OTT industry has grown tenfold in recent years. India is also fast becoming a global hub for film production, fashion, digital content, and gaming. With the $430 billion global animation market poised to double in the next decade, PM Modi realises there's unlimited potential for India's animation and graphic design industries and hence, the government is giving a huge push to them.

India's creative economy adds over $30 billion to the GDP, and generates jobs to more than 8% of the workforce. Creative exports cross $11 billion every year. Platforms such as YouTube and digital design are enabling creators from small towns to reach audiences across the globe.

How the $1 billion creative economy fund will help?

Under PM Modi's leadership, a $1 billion creative economy fund was announced by the government in March 2025, spearheaded by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The fund is a public-private partnership to promote digital creators with funding, skills, and global market access. A Rs 400-crore Indian Institute of Creative Technology (IICT) is also being set up in Mumbai to impart creative and digital skills on the youth.

The creative economy fund is boosting innovation in the Orange Economy by backing startups, strengthening infrastructure, and promoting cultural exports, alongside government initiatives such as WAVES (World Audio-Visual and Entertainment Summit) India.

PM Modi asserts that India’s creative economy can increase its contribution to GDP in the coming years, and a number of government initiatives are aimed at developing talent, upgrading infrastructure, encouraging startups, and increasing India’s creative exports worldwide.

PM Modi believes that the Orange Economy will be the next big engine of sustainable, inclusive growth. It will empower young creators, and position India as a global creative powerhouse.
