Kolkata: In news which has once again shed light on the raging evil of human trafficking, 56 young women have been rescued from Patna-bound Capital Express by the GRP and the RPF of Jalpaiguri.

Young women from Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, and Alipurduar were being taken to Bihar by giving them the bait of working in an iPhone company. The GRP arrested two people, including a woman, on charges of attempted human trafficking. A lot of inconsistency has been found in the words of those accused. After the rescue, the family members were informed, and the women are being handed over to their respective families.

The young women who inhabited the tea plantations of North Bengal were initially targeted. Their families live in poverty, and girls from those families were being taken to other states with the lure of lucrative jobs. At first, a mock training was held in Siliguri. It was said that they would be given jobs at some mobile companies, including the iPhone. The perpetrators originally intended to take the women to a border area of Tamil Nadu near Bengaluru, but later, Patna became the destination.

The date July 21 was chosen to perpetrate that crime. Because on that day, trains and buses were crowded with workers and supporters of Trinamool Congress. Police have found out that there was a plan to take the young women by mixing with the crowd.

It is known that 56 people boarded in one compartment of the train and none of them had tickets. They only had a piece of paper with their seat and coach numbers. Seeing that, other passengers and the ticket examiner became suspicious, and the GRP was informed.

The police are currently interrogating those who have been arrested and probing if any crime ring is behind this. A parent said, "We came here and heard that they were taking our girls, but there was no police verification. I heard that they had taken a batch like this before."
