‘Hunt down each and every culprit’: Amit Shah holds meeting of senior officials a day after Delhi blast

At least eight people lost their lives and several others were injured in the car blast near Red Fort on Monday. While the blast triggered panic across the country, authorities put the national capital and several parts of the country on alert

New Delhi: A day after the deadly blast rocked the national capital, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday chaired a meeting of top officials and reviewed the incident. He also aske them to hunt down every culprit in the incident.

Among those who attended the meeting were Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau (IB) Director Tapan Deka, Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha, and NIA Director General Sadanand Vasant Date. J&K DGP Nalin Prabhat joined the meeting in virtual mode.

Taking to X, Shah wrote, “Chaired review meetings on the Delhi car blast with the senior officials. Instructed them to hunt down each and every culprit behind this incident. Everyone involved in this act will face the full wrath of our agencies."

At least eight people lost their lives and several others were injured in the car blast near Red Fort on Monday. While the blast triggered panic across the country, authorities put the national capital and several parts of the country on alert. Several airports and institutions are on alert in the country.

As per the police, the blast took place in i20 car on the red light near Red Fort. The injured were later taken to LNJP hospital, where Shah visited and spoke to them. While the probe behind the incident is not yet known, the Centre has handed over the probe to NIA.

FIR registered under UAPA

According to the police, Umar Mohammad, a doctor from Pulwama, was allegedly driving the car that exploded at the site. Footage showing his image was obtained by the police from the vicinity. In the footage, he can be seen driving the car moments before the blast. The Delhi Police registered an FIR under the UAPA on Tuesday. They filed the case under related sections of the conspiracy and execution of a terror attack.
