New Delhi: An Air India Express flight bound for Thailand's Phuket was forced to return to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad on Saturday morning shortly after takeoff. Reports from Flight IX110, operated by a Boeing 737 Max 8, the flight was scheduled to take off from the airport at 6:20 am, but it left the airport at 6:40 am. 

The flight was expected to land in Phuket at around 11:45 am, but it turned around due to a technical issue.

Air India apologises on X

After a while, Air India expressed its apologies on the social media platform. It said, “Accept our sincere apologies for the disruption of your flight. To assist you further and check the latest status, please DM us your booking details (PNR). Thanks for your patience and understanding.”

Mocking Air India, a passenger wrote, "Thank you  Air India for making me realise to never fly with you again and successfully redirecting and landing in Hyderabad due to a technical glitch and making me go through unorganised re-security check."

The airline further replied, " We apologise for the inconvenience caused due to the disruption of your flight. Please note that the delay was due to technical reasons, as ensuring our guests' safety remains our top priority."

In a similar incident, an Indigo-bound flight from Delhi to Imphal was forced to return mid-air on Thursday due to a technical glitch. Following the issue, the flight underwent some compulsory checks and finally resumed its journey after a prolonged wait of four and a half hours. 

Subsequently, the airline authorities ensured that the flight is now in a stable condition. The Hindustan Times quoted an Indigo spokesperson as saying, “A minor technical snag was detected soon after take-off on flight 6E 5118 operating from Delhi to Imphal on 17 July 2025. As a precautionary step, the pilots decided to turn back and landed safely at Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi.”
