New Delhi: Leaders of the INDIA bloc held a virtual meeting on Saturday to finalise their collective strategy for the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament, scheduled to begin on Monday. The meeting saw participation from 24 political parties.
Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Jairam Ramesh confirmed the participation through a post on X, saying, "Leaders of 24 political parties belonging to the INDIA group have just begun their online pre-Parliament meeting." He said that the alliance is determined to raise critical issues in a united voice. The virtual discussion was attended by top leaders, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress Parliamentary Party chief Sonia Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, and CPI(ML) general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya.
High on the agenda were issues such as the Election Commission's special revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, and Operation Sindoor. The bloc also plans to take up former US President Donald Trump's remarks about mediating tensions between India and Pakistan, and the impeachment demand against Justice Yashwant Varma following the recovery of burnt currency notes from his residence.
According to reports, the Congress has resolved to press for debates on a host of pressing issues, including the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, the rise in crimes against women, the Ahmedabad air crash, mounting unemployment, and the agrarian crisis.
The meeting comes just two days before the monsoon session. Earlier this week, Sonia Gandhi chaired a Congress Parliamentary Strategy Group meeting at her 10, Janpath residence to prepare the party's stand on several of these issues.
