India–US partnership in focus as PM Modi speaks with Trump on phone call

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former US President Donald Trump held a warm telephone conversation, reviewing progress in the India–US strategic partnership, discussing trade, technology, defence and global challenges, and reaffirming their commitment to strengthening cooperation across key areas of mutual interest.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and United States President Donald J. Trump held a telephone conversation on Thursday, during which the two leaders took stock of the growing India–US partnership and discussed ways to deepen cooperation across a wide range of sectors.

According to official sources, both leaders expressed satisfaction with the progress made under the India–US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. They highlighted the need to maintain momentum in bilateral trade and reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation in emerging and critical technologies, energy, defence and security.

PM Modi also later shared details of the call in a post on X (formerly Twitter), saying the discussion covered areas central to the implementation of the India–US COMPACT, an initiative aimed at catalysing opportunities in defence collaboration, commercial ties and technological innovation.

"Had a very warm and engaging conversation with President Trump. We reviewed the progress in our bilateral relations and discussed regional and international developments. India and the U.S. will continue to work together for global peace, stability and prosperity,” PM Modi posted on X.

The two leaders also reviewed regional and global developments, underscoring the importance of working together to address shared challenges and advance common strategic interests. Officials said both sides reiterated that India and the United States play an essential role in shaping global stability at a time of geopolitical uncertainty.

PM Modi described the conversation as cordial and constructive. Both leaders agreed to stay in contact as New Delhi and Washington continue to strengthen cooperation across trade, technology and security.
