New Delhi: A 21-year-old Indian-origin man was arrested for allegedly assaulting a fellow passenger onboard a Frontier Airlines flight from Philadelphia to Miami. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media showing the man, identified as Ishaan Sharma, getting into a ugly fight with a co-passenger, Keanu Evans. The incident took place on Monday night.
Sharma, a resident of New Jersey, claimed that the mid-air brawl broke out because he was meditating and the fellow-passenger who was sitting behind him did not like it. "My client is from a religion where he was meditating. Unfortunately, the passenger behind him did not like that," the accused's lawyer said during his court appearance on Tuesday, a news outlet reported.
In the clip, Sharma and the co-passenger can be seen grabbing each other's necks as other passengers try to intervene and pacify them. Evans alleged that Sharma allegedly approached him and grabbed his neck while returning to his seat.
Evans claimed that Sharma threatened him with death following which he alerted the crew by pressing the assistance button. Moments later, Sharma allegedly confronted him again and the matter escalated.
"He just got up, put his forehead on mine like he was challenging me, and then grabbed me by the throat and just started choking me," Evans recalled. “At that moment, it was fight or flight... all I could do was defend myself," he added. Upon landing in Miami, Sharma was taken into custody.
