Indian-origin student arrested in US for arson, terror threats against family
US police arrested a 22-year-old Indian-origin student on charges of arson and making terroristic threats against family members after responding to a call about a reported mental health episode. Authorities said the accused had allegedly attempted to set his residence on fire days before the arrest.
New Delhi: US police have arrested a 22-year-old Indian-origin student on charges of arson and making terroristic threats against family members. The accused, identified as Manojh Sai Lella (22), was arrested on Monday.
Police said they reached Lella’s residence after family members reported that he was experiencing a mental health episode and had allegedly issued threats. Authorities added that he is also accused of attempting to set the house on fire several days before his arrest.
Lella has been classified as Class A misdemeanour
Lella has been charged with arson with intent to damage a habitation or place of worship, a first-degree felony, and making a terroristic threat against a family or household member, which is classified as a Class A misdemeanour. Police clarified that there is no evidence suggesting any threat to a place of worship.
According to court records, his bond was set at $100,000 for the arson charge and $3,500 for the terroristic threat charge. The investigation is ongoing.
