IndiGo has formally submitted its initial response to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) following the widespread flight cancellations that recently disrupted Indian aviation.

The airline, which typically operates over 2,200 daily flights and holds 60% of the domestic market, has requested additional time to provide a detailed explanation. IndiGo stated that pinpointing exact causes is complex due to the vast scale of its operations.

Multiple factors were cited for the disruptions, including minor technical glitches, winter schedule changes, adverse weather conditions, increased congestion, and the implementation of phase two of flight duty time limitation rules affecting crew availability. The airline confirmed it is conducting a comprehensive root cause analysis.

The operational crisis intensified in early December, leading to a full network reboot on 5th December, which involved grounding hundreds of flights to clear congestion and reposition resources. The DGCA has summoned IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers and COO for questioning regarding the crisis.
