At least 20 peacocks have been found dead in Hanumanthapura village of Karnataka in mysterious circumstances. The cause of the birds' death is yet to be ascertained. Peacock is India's national bird. Meanwhile, the carcasses of the national bird have been sent to forensic labs to ascertain the cause of their death. The carcasses of the peacocks include 3 male and 17 female.
The incident took place in Madhugiri taluk of Tumkur district. Recently, 18 monkeys were found dead on the Kandegala-Kodasoge road in Gundlupet taluk of Chamarajanagar district in the state.
The carcasses of the national birds were found in a farmland nearby a stream. The carcasses were located by the farmers when they arrived at the fields in the morning.
Locals suspect that the birds may have died on the night of August 1.
Theories about peacock deaths
The exact cause of the peacocks' deaths is not clear yet. It is suspected that they may have died after consuming pesticide-sprayed crops or that someone may have poisoned them.
Meanwhile, forest officials have visited the site and inspected it for possible cause of the death. After obtaining permission from the judge, the carcasses have been sent to the FSL. The forest officials are expected to ascertain the cause of death after obtaining a report by forensic lab.
Tiger deaths in Chamarajanagar
Recently, the killing of five tigers in the Male Mahadeshwara Wildlife Sanctuary in Chamarajanagar created quite a stir. The police arrested three people for allegedly killing the tigers. The forensic document reportedly confirmed that the insecticide 'Carbofuran' was used to kill the tigers.
Killing of 18 monkeys
Even before the killing of five tigers was solved, the bodies of 18 monkeys were found on the outskirts of Kandegal village in Gundlupet taluk of Chamarajanagar district in the border region. The miscreants had reportedly poisoned the monkeys. The accused reportedly stuffed the animals into a gunny bag and dumped them on the village outskirts.
