New Delhi: In a shocking case reported from Karnataka's Hubballi, a woman BJP worker was allegedly assaulted by cops and her clothes were torn while being detained after a protest. A video of the entire incident is now going viral on social media. The woman was reportedly surrounded by both male and female personnel before the assault. The video shows the woman worker inside a bus, surrounded by police personnel.
According to reports the woman resisted the detention and raised several objections. This led to the police beating her up inside the bus and her clothes were also torn. The woman was arrested on a complaint by the Congress corporator Suvarna Kallakuntla. The complaint was filed after an earlier dispute between Congress and BJP workers, during a protest regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) rolls.
Reports claimed that the woman was earlier a Congress worker, but recently joined the BJP. The dispute reportedly stemmed from the fact that she insisted the EC officials delete certain names from the voter list. This is what led to clashes between the workers of the 2 parties. The woman however has denied the charges against her.
The Karnataka police have so far not issued any statement regarding the custodial misconduct by its personnel. Both the BJP and Congress have filed complaints against each other. The video meanwhile continued to be shared and led to considerable protests and outrage in Karnataka.
