New Delhi: In a shocking robbery case reported from Karnataka's Chikkaballapur, a thief stole Rs 55 lakh belonging to a businessman, from a KSRTC bus. This is the second major theft case reported from the state, after the multi-crore heist reported from Bengaluru. The theft took place near Aroor in Chikkaballapur taluk.
The bus with the registration number KA 57 F-3911 was enroute to Hyderabad from Bengaluru, when the driver stopped for dinner at a roadside eatery. They stopped near Aroor in Chikkaballapur and all passengers got down for lunch.
The bag, belonging to the businessman, was left on the seat, as he also got off for his dinner. The thieves took advantage of the fact that the bag was left unattended and made off with it, along with the cash. The bag belonged to K Venkateshwara Rao.
Rao said that he was carrying the cash back home in Hyderabad, after having sold off one of his properties in Bengaluru.
According to other passengers who were also having their dinner at the eatery, said that they saw a man exit a Tata Indica car and approach the bus. He directly got into the bus and took the bag kept on seat number 4.
The businessman K Venkateshwara Rao has filed a complaint with Peresandra police station regarding the theft. The police have launched a manhunt for the thief. They said that the number plate of the car was fake and efforts are on to track the vehicle. The police are also trying to find out whether the thief was following the bus and whether he already knew that Rao was carrying such a huge amount of cash.
