Shocking: 35-year-old woman gangraped in Karnataka’s Hubballi, 3 held

The police said that of the three arrested in the case, two are accused of raping the 35-year old. Another person has been taken in custody for allegedly circulating the video of the incident online.

Hubballi: In a shocking incident, a woman was allegedly gangraped in the Hubballi district of Karnataka. The police have arrested three people in the case. As per the police, the victim is stable and is undergoing treatment at a hospital.

Two held for rape, one for circulating videos online

Sharing further details, the police said that of the three arrested in the case, two are accused of raping the 35-year old. Another person has been taken in custody for allegedly circulating the video of the incident online.

Of the three arrested, Shivanand and Ganesh have been accused of raping the woman, while Pradeep has been accused of circulating videos. All three worked as labourers, the commissioner added.

The alleged incident took place on Jan 9

According to Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar, the incident took place at around 11:30 pm on January 9. The woman was reportedly taken in an autorickshaw from Ambedkar Ground when the alleged incident took place.

"The two men misbehaved with her, made physical contact, and allegedly forced her to consume alcohol. They took photos and videos before dropping her back at Ambedkar Ground," he said, as per news agency PTI.

The police said that it came to know of the incident after some people received photos and videos of the incident and approached. The victim was traced in the Hubballi district of the state. "Her identity was initially not known. Inquiry revealed she had been staying near temples in different parts of the city for the past one-and-a-half months and was eating at Siddharoodha Math," the commissioner added further.

Formal complaint filed after the victim was traced

While the police initially filed the case itself initially, the complaint was recorded formally after the victim was traced. . The commissioner stated that the victim had arrived in Hubballi a month prior, following a dispute with her husband.
