‘There is no fight’: CM Siddaramaiah dismisses speculations on power struggle in Karnataka

The speculations over change in CM's post once gain ignited in recent times after the Congress government in the state completed halfway mark on November 20.

Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah dismissed speculations regarding power struggle with the ruling Congress party in the state. He said that there is no fight for the chief minister’s post.

The statement came amid speculations of rift between him and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar regarding CM’s chair. Siddaramaiah’s reaction came while he was speaking to reporters on Sunday in Bengaluru.

“There is no fight, you (media) create it. Where is the fight? Unnecessarily you ask such questions," Siddaramaiah said as per news agency PTI. His remarks came while responding to a BJP post on social media, claiming that the fight for the BJP post will begin once again after Sankranti festival.

Why have speculations gained momentum lately?

The speculations over change in CM’s post once gain ignited in recent times after the Congress government in the state completed halfway mark on November 20. However, even after meeting senior party leadership in Delhi, both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar have rejected such reports.

Recently, both senior Congress leaders met over breakfast in Bengaluru. After the meet both leaders said that they had met to discuss upcoming Assembly elections in the state. Shivakumar had also met Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge recently. After the meeting, Shivakumar denied any change in CM post in Karnataka.

What Shivakumar said after meeting Congress chief?

“There is no need to do it, I will not do it, there is no such thing for now. Siddaramaiah and I have said that we will work abiding by the high command’s decision, and we are committed to it,” he was quoted as saying to reporters. He had also denied speculations that any political or leadership-related matters were discussed with the Congress president.
