New Delhi: Telecom Regulatory Authority of India rejected Congress's claims that it refuted the Party's appeal to send messages to its workers in Maharashtra. The party urged the agency to inform them about the making of a documentary on the "vote-chori" during the Maharashtra elections in 2024.
Sharing a post on X, TRAI claimed that no such application was rejected by it. Adding that the agency does not approve any individual SMS templates. It read, No application was received by TRAI for sending SMS to a political party's Maharashtra cadre on how the 2024 Assembly election was ‘stolen’. "TRAI doesn't approve individual SMS templates. As per the photo, it is clear that it was rejected by the service provider, STPL".
Previously, the Congress Party asserted that the telecom regulatory authority rejected the application claiming that the messages could not be sent as they were "protest content".
In a post, Congress data analytics chairman Praveen Chakravarty questioned TRAI's silence. It read, "Nothing shows guilt more clearly than the perfect synchronisation of suppression. Home Ministry, Election Commission, and Telecom regulator, all moving in lockstep to censor content on “Vote Chori”. If there was no theft, why silence the truth?".
Congress MP Manickam Tagore attacked the TRAI on X, "TRAI rejected permission, calling it “protest content.”
Who controls this censorship chain? Amit Shah, Ashwini Vaishnav, Gnaneshwar." Directing it to Amit Shah, Tagore claimed, Amit bhai, if Maharashtra elections weren’t stolen, why are you so scared of a YouTube link?
Ashwini ji, since when did TRAI become the BJP’s IT Cell? Gnaneshwar, your signature on this rejection note is proof of regulatory capture. Suppressing SMS won’t suppress truth. Blocking Congress workers won’t block democracy. The more you censor, the louder people will ask: What exactly are you hiding about MH 2024 elections?"
