BJP clinches Mumbai, Pune and Nanded as saffron party takes over Maharashtras municipalities
The BJP has emerged as the largest party in important municipalities like Mumbai and Pune. It is now clear that the Mahayuti, which also has Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena, will come to power in Mumbai.
New Delhi: The results of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections to gain control of the cash-rich civic body are out, and the BJP has emerged as the largest party in important municipalities like Mumbai and Pune. It is now clear that the Mahayuti, which also has Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena, will come to power in Mumbai.
BJP clinches Pune in massive win
So, in Pune too, the mayor will be from the BJP. It has emerged as the largest party in most of the municipalities in the state. Meanwhile, the results of the Nanded Municipal Corporation elections are also out. The BJP has emerged as the largest party in this municipal corporation as well, and Uddhav Thackeray's party, Shiv Sena (UBT), has not even been able to open an account.
BJP wins big in Nanded
Elections were held for a total of 81 seats in the Nanded Municipal Corporation. Out of these, the BJP has won a total of 40 seats so far, and is leading in five seats. Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena was leading in six seats and has won one seat. Ajit Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party has won a total of seven seats.
Poor result for Congress, Ashok Chavan's effort pays off
Congress and alliance party candidates were leading with four candidates, and six have won. A total of four candidates from the MIM party have also won there. Meanwhile, BJP MP Ashok Chavan had put in a lot of effort to win the Nanded Municipal Corporation elections by organising meetings and rallies. He reached out to people from door to door, holding hands with local office bearers. This election was a battle for survival for Chavan. In Nanded, Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena leader Hemant Patil has received a big shock.
