New Delhi: Following the alleged suicide of a 28-year-old woman doctor working at a government hospital in Maharashtra's Satara district, several shocking claims have surfaced. According to the death note, derived by the police, the deceased accused two cops of rape and mental harassment for the past five months.
After the incident, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis ordered the immediate suspension of the two cops mentioned in the suicide note. Following which the body had been sent for the post-mortem.
The police revealed that sub-inspector Gopal Badane had raped and sexually harassed her multiple times.
The note said that Prashant Bankar, subjected her to mental harassment. Responding to the situation, Maharashtra Women’s Commission chief Rupali Chakankar said, "We have taken cognisance of the matter and ordered Satara Police to take strict action against the accused.”
The late doctor's relatives believe that the victim was forced to make wrong post-mortem reports amid severe legal and political pressure. "She tried to complain about it. My sister should get justice," added one of her cousins.
One of the kin said that the doctor was bright and ambitious. She claimed that immense pressure from the seniors inclined her to take the disastrous step. "The culprits must be punished,” she added. Another said, “Just two days ago, she mentioned being harassed by seniors at work.”
According to the police, an FIR had been registered against the two cops under charges of rape and abetment to suicide. The accused sub-inspector has been suspended, and the police team has launched a thorough investigation to locate the accused. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also holds the Home portfolio, spoke to the Satara SP and ordered immediate suspension of the officers named in the note.
